The Airborne Research & Survey Facility (ARSF, formerly Airborne Remote Sensing Facility) is managed by NERC Scientific Services and Programme Management. It provides the UK environmental science community, and other potential users, with the means to obtain remotely-sensed data in support of research, survey and monitoring programmes. The ARSF is a unique service providing environmental researchers, engineers and surveyors with synoptic analogue and digital imagery of high spatial and spectral resolution.The NEODC holds the entire archive of Airborne Thematic Mapper (ATM) and Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) data acquired by the NERC ARSF. High-resolution scanned digital versions of the entire collection of analogue photographs are now also available as well as selected LiDAR-derived elevation and terrain models for selected sites flown using the sensor.

The ACES (Aerosol Coupling in the Earth System) project was an integrated research programme that aims to reduce uncertainties in our fundamental understanding of the formation of BSOA (Biogenic Secondary Organic Aerosol) and the subsequent impact on atmospheric composition, through coordinated chamber studies, field studies, process model development, and application of atmospheric models of chemistry and transport to assess coupling and feedbacks in the Earth system. This dataset contains measurements of concentration of different sized particles, measured from ground level up to 32 metres. Data were collected for the period 13 April to 23 July 2008 by the University of Manchester GRIMM optical particle counter based at the forest in-canopy site located at the FACE (Forests Absorbing CO2 Emissions) nursery at the Sabahmas Estate oil plantation in Malaysia. Measurements were made at fixed heights of ground level, 8 metres, 16 metres, and 32 metres. Measurements were also taken whilst the instrument was mounted on a winch which had a height range of 1 metre to 28 metres.

Chemistry of the Antarctic Boundary Layer and the Interface with Snow (CHABLIS) is a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Antarctic Funding Initiative (AFI) funded project, aimed at studying the chemistry of the Antarctic Boundary Layer in greater detail, and for a longer duration, than has previously been attempted. Field measurements were carried out at the British Antarctic Survey station, Halley, at the Clean Air Sector Laboratory (CASLab). Year-round measurements began in February 2004, and a summer campaign focussing on oxidants ran during January/February 2005, after which CHABLIS fieldwork ended. The dataset contains HONO mixing ratio (nitrous acid) measurements. Access to this dataset is now public.

Data were collected over the Montpellier, France. Mediterranean Basin area.

WCRP CMIP5: Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies (COLA) CFSv2-2011 model output for the noVolc1995 experiment. These data cover the following realms: atmos, land, landIce, ocean and seaIce; at the following frequency: mon. The runs included the ensemble members: r1i2p1, r2i2p1, r3i2p1 and r4i2p1. The WCRP Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, Phase 5 (CMIP5), was a global climate model intercomparison project, coordinated by PCMDI (Program For Climate Model Diagnosis and Intercomparison) on behalf of the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) and provided input for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 5th Assessment Report (AR5).

Data were collected under the NERC funded project - The role of land-use change on influencing mountain climate on Kilimanjaro, East Africa (NE/J013366/1) - lead by Dr Nicholas Pepin (University of Portsmouth) which investigated the influence of land-use on surface climate (temperature and moisture availability) on Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. Temperature measurements were taken at hourly intervals at 23 stations on Mount Kilimanjaro between September 2012 and September 2015. Specific station locations (elevation and lat/long) are stated in the data and are ordered in a transect across the mountain from South-West over the top to North-East. Two of the stations have both ground level and air level sensors (hence there are 25 readings not 23). Additional information about station locations and missing data can be found in a PDF on the CEDA archive.

The Meteorological Research Flight (MRF) was a Met Office facility, which flew a well-instrumented C-130 Hercules aircraft for atmospheric research purposes. This dataset contains airborne atmospheric and chemistry measurements taken on board the Met Office C-130 Hercules aircraft flight A330 for research purposes.

This dataset contains surface aerosol particle size distribution measurements from Summit Station Greenland measured by a Handix Portable Optical Particle Spectrometer (POPS 1120, S/N: 0288). The POPS was connected to an omnidirectional total air inlet and installed on the roof of the Atmospheric Watch Observatory building at Summit Station. These data were collected as part of the joint Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) and US National Science Foundation (NSF) -funded Integrated Characterisation of Energy, Clouds, Atmospheric state, and Precipitation at Summit - Aerosol Cloud Experiment (ICECAPS-ACE) project.

Surface level wave model parameters on a reduced N256 Gaussian grid from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECWMF) ERA-Interim programme. The ERA-Interim global atmospheric reanalysis of the covers 1979 to August 2019. This follows on from the ERA-15 and ERA-40 re-analysis projects This subset of the ERA-Interim dataset contains 29 parameters.
