Theme 5 (Cryosphere and Polar Oceans) of the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) is aimed at resolving uncertainties in future climate and sea-level arising from behaviour of the cryosphere. This dataset holds timeseries of Greenland glacier velocity fluctuations and Greenland glacier calving front fluctuations as maps and backscatter intensity images for the period March-July 2011. Timeseries of Antarctica glacier velocity and calving front fluctuations are expected later this year. The velocity fields and backscatter data were transformed to map coordinates using the GLAS/ICESat 1 km Laser Altimetry Digital Elevation Model of Greenland which is provided at Polar Stereographic grids (DiMarzio, J., Brenner, A., Schutz, R., Schuman, A. & Zwally, H.J. (2007)).

CCMVal was a large international effort to improve understanding of Chemistry-Climate Models (CCMs) and their underlying GCMs (General Circulation Models) through process-oriented evaluation, along with discussion and coordinated analysis of science results. The first round of CCMVal (CCMVal-1) evaluated only a limited set of key processes in the CCMs, focusing mainly on dynamics and transport. This dataset collection contains atmospheric chemical model feedback from research centres around the world. CCMVal was part of the World Climate Research Programme's (WCRP), which mission is to facilitate analysis and prediction of Earth system variability and change for use in an increasing range of practical applications of direct relevance, benefit and value to society. This project was coordinated by SPARC (Stratosphere-troposphere Processes And their Role in Climate) as a core project of the World Climate Research Programme.

ClearfLo (Clean Air for London) Project was a collaborative scientific project involving several academic institutions in the UK, which aimed to set up air pollution monitoring sites alongside meteorological measurements to investigate boundary layer pollution across London. This dataset collection contains meteorology, composition and particulate loading measurements of London's urban atmosphere. The ambition of ClearfLo was to provide long-term integrated measurements of the meteorology, composition and particulate loading of London’s urban atmosphere, made at street level and at elevated sites, complemented by modelling to improve predictive capability for air quality. ClearfLo was funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) for three years from Jan 2010, and was coordinated by the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS).

Land surface and marine surface observations data from the Met Office station network and other world wide stations as stored in the Met Office MIDAS database. Data are available for the period 1853 to present. The dataset comprises daily and hourly weather measurements, hourly wind parameters, max and min air temperatures, soil temperatures, sunshine duration and radiation measurements and daily, hourly and sub-hourly rain measurements, some climatology data and marine observations (including sea surface temperature, swell and wave associated parameters). This dataset collection supersedes the Met Office Land Surface Stations Dataset collection (1900-2000), also archived at the BADC.

The 20th Century Reanalysis (Version 2) Dataset was produced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and University of Colorado's Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), members of the international Twentieth Century Reanalysis (20CR) project. This dataset collection contains twentieth century global climate reanalysis data, including output from each 56 members of the ensemble runs, their means, spreads and input observational data. The reanalysis was performed in various runs, each producing a 5 year period of output data. The data were produced through international cooperation under the auspices of the international Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth (ACRE) initiative, and working groups of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) and the World Climate Research Program (WCRP). The 20CR project produced comprehensive global atmospheric circulation data spanning from late 19th century to the early 21st century, having only assimilated surface synoptic pressure observations and using observed monthly sea-surface temperature and sea-ice distributions from the HadISST dataset, courtesy of the Met Office Hadley Centre, as boundary conditions. Analyses every 6 hours on a 2 degree grid were produced to give the most likely state of the atmosphere based on a 56 ensemble member runs. Means, spreads and all ensemble members for each time step are available in the dataset archived at the BADC. The current 20CR output produced spans from 1871 to present with the BADC copy being updated when possible.
