  • QUEST projects both used and produced an immense variety of global data sets that needed to be shared efficiently between the project teams. These global synthesis data sets are also a key part of QUEST's legacy, providing a powerful way of communicating the results of QUEST among and beyond the UK Earth System research community. This dataset contains monthly climatology measurements for 1961-1990.

These global synthesis data sets are also a key part of QUEST's legacy, providing a powerful way of communicating the results of QUEST among and beyond the UK Earth System research community. This dataset contains decadal surface meteorology climatologies from CRU TS3.0 data 1901- 2000. Data includes parameters such as temperature, water vapour and precipitation.

These global synthesis data sets are also a key part of QUEST's legacy, providing a powerful way of communicating the results of QUEST among and beyond the UK Earth System research community. This dataset contains global Population Distribution (1990), Terrestrial Area and Country Name Information on a One by One Degree Grid Cell Basis.

This dataset contains a map of a ecosystem. This map depicts the 825 terrestrial ecoregions of the globe. Ecoregions are relatively large units of land contain ing distinct assemblages of natural communities and species, with boundaries that approximate the original extent of natural communities prior to major land-use change. This comprehensive, global map provides a useful framework for conducting biogeographical or macroecological research, for identifying areas of outstanding biodiversity and conse rvation priority, for assessing the representation and gaps in conservation efforts worldwide, and for communicating the global distribution of natural communities on earth.

This dataset contains soil data generated from ISLSCP II. The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project, Initiative II (ISLSCP II) is a follow on project from The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP). ISLSCP II had the lead role in addressing land-atmosphere interactions - process modelling, data retrieval algorithms, field experiment design and execution, and the development of global data sets.

This dataset contains MODIS land cover classification data. The MODIS Land Cover Type product contains multiple classification schemes, which describe land cover properties derived from observations spanning a year's input of Terra and Aqua data. The primary land cover scheme identifies 17 land cover classes defined by the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP), which includes 11 natural vegetation classes, 3 developed and mosaicked land classes, and three non-vegetated land classes. The MODIS Terra + Aqua Land Cover Type Yearly L3 Global 500 m SIN Grid product incorporates five different land cover classification schemes, derived through a supervised decision-tree classification method: * Land Cover Type 1: IGBP global vegetation classification scheme * Land Cover Type 2: University of Maryland (UMD) scheme * Land Cover Type 3: MODIS-derived LAI/fPAR scheme * Land Cover Type 4: MODIS-derived Net Primary Production (NPP) scheme * Land Cover Type 5: Plant Functional Type (PFT) scheme The dataset stored here has been aggregated onto a 10 arc minute grid by Jose Gomez-Dans, working within the QUEST FIREMAFS project.

This dataset collection contains climatology, soil. population, ecosystem and land cover data. To facilitate this data exchange, and to avoid replication of the often labour-intensive efforts to source and visualize data, QUEST set up the QUEST Earth System Data Initiative - QESDI - a mechanism for easy, centralized access with flexible statistical and visualization tools for consistent processing and presentation of global data sets.
