  • Data were collected by the Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research (CFARR) Disdrometer from the 1st of April 2003 to the present at Chilbolton, Hampshire. The dataset contains measurements of the drop size distribution of rain.

  • The Radio Acoustic Sounding System (RASS) messages data describe hourly observations from around 120 stations distributed globally. The observations, which are later transmitted in reports, give measurements of parameters such as wind speed, and temperature. The data are collected by observation stations worldwide and transmitted within the RASS message. Data are extracted daily at around 00 UT from the Met Office's MetDB system for the previous day's coverage. The dataset contains measurements of the following parameters: - Station height (in m) - Virtual temperature (in Kelvin) - Wind w velocity component (in m/s) - Signal to noise ratio See linked documentation for general information about surface station readings can be obtained from the abridged version of "MIDAS Data Users Guide", provided by the Met Office. This document describes the meteorological surface data in the Met Office Database - MIDAS. This guide is rich in information and is aimed at those with little familiarity with observing methods or instrumentation. Details of the WMO Meteorological codes used at weather observing stations (daily and hourly weather) explain the codes used in this dataset further are also linked to on this record.

  • Measurements from a LI-COR LI-7500 open path gas analyser operating at infra-red wavelengths deployed at the Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research site in Chilbolton, Hampshire. The instrument measures the absorption due to carbon dioxide at specific wavelengths along its 0.125m measurement path. Internally-stored calibration data are used to convert these absorption values to a mole concentration for each gas. Carbon dioxde and water vapour mole concentrations from this instrument are also provided with sonic anemomenter data at a 20Hz data acquisition rate for eddy covariance calculations in another CFARR dataset. Measurements are taken at 10s intervals and are archived at this temporal resolution. Data are in netCDF.

  • Dual-polar products from the Met Office's Chenies C-band rain radar, Hertfordshire, England. Data include augmented ldr and zdr scan data (both long and short pulse). The radar is a C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar and data are received by the Nimrod system at 5 minute intervals.

  • Dual-polar products from the Met Office's Clee Hill C-band rain radar, Shropshire, England. Data from this site include augmented ldr (linear depolarisation ratio) and zdr (differential reflectivity) scan data (both long and short pulse), available from August 2018 to present. The radar is a C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar and data are received by the Nimrod system at 5 minute intervals.

  • This dataset contains level 1b altimetry data from the Synthetic Aperture Radar Altimeter (SRAL) aboard the European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel 3B Satellite. Sentinel 3B was launched on the 25th of April 2018. These level 1b products are geo-located and fully calibrated multi-looked High-Resolution power echoes. Complex echoes (In-phase (I) and Quadrature (Q)) for the Low-Resolution Mode (LRM) and/or Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mode both for C Band and Ku band. When the altimeter is in SAR mode, this product also contains the so-called Pseudo LRM (PLRM) echoes. All Sentinel-3 Non-Time Critical (NTC) products are available in less than 30 days. Data are provided by ESA and are made available via CEDA to any registered user.

  • Dual-polar products from the Met Office's Hameldon Hill C-band rain radar, Lancashire, England. Data include augmented ldr and zdr scan data (both long and short pulse). The radar is a C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar and data are received by the Nimrod system at 5 minute intervals.

  • This dataset contains Top-of Atmosphere (TOA) reflectances in cartographic geometry (level 1C) processed data, from the Multispectral Instrument (MSI) aboard the European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel 2A satellite. Sentinel 2A was launched on 23rd June 2015 and provides multispectral images of the earth’s surface as a continuation and enhancement of the Landsat and SPOT missions. Data are provided by the European Space Agency (ESA) and are made available via CEDA to any registered user in the UK. CEDA have switched to provide Sentinel 2 data for the UK and Dependencies along with data needed per project basis as of April 2019. Please contact us if you need data outside these areas and we will see what we can do.

  • Dual-polar products from the Met Office's Holehead C-band rain radar, Stirling, Scotland. Data from this site include augmented ldr (linear depolarisation ratio) and zdr (differential reflectivity) scan data (both long and short pulse) available from August 2018 at present. The radar is a C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar and data are received by the Nimrod system at 5 minute intervals.

  • Data were collected by the Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research (CFARR) Present Weather Sensor from 21st of August 2009 to the present at Chilbolton, Hampshire. The dataset contains reports of current weather conditions and those over the last hour using both NWS (National Weather Service) and WMO (World Meteorological Organisation) weather codes.
